Compound Butter

Compound Butter is simply butter mixed with other ingredients–such an easy way to add flavour. It’s perfect when sautéing veggies, grilling chicken or as a finishing touch for steak–but we love it most simply spread on a slice of bread. We love experimenting with flavours to add in and keep extra frozen to have it on hand whenever needed.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp, The Salty Greek (any blend)

  • 1 Cup Butter, room temperature (soft not melted)

Speedy version: 1 Tbsp Butter, 1/2 Tbsp The Salty Greek, mix with fork.

Recipe Steps

  1. Mix the ingredients using a fork until well combined.

  2. Shape the butter and transfer the mixture onto a piece of baking paper and shape it into a log. (you can use cling wrap if you want)

  3. Roll the baking paper wrap tightly around the butter and twist the ends to seal.

  4. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.

  5. Slice the chilled compound butter into rounds and enjoy.

Tips: This recipe can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.

How to Use

Some ideas to use compound butter:

  • Add some minced garlic and you have another flavour booster.

  • Use it to saute vegetables, adding an extra layer of flavour.

  • Basting: melt it over meats like roast chicken, steak or fish during cooking.

  • Finishing touches: place a pat on a freshly cooked steak as it rests for an impressive finish.

  • Toss cooked pasta with it for a quick and tasty sauce.

  • Spread it on a warm bread or rolls–use it instead of regular plain butter or mayonnaise.
