🌸 Celebrating Mother’s Day

It’s a special day dedicated to honouring the mothers and mother figures for their contributions, sacrifices and above all LOVE. This special day emphasizes appreciation, gratitude and recognition of the role mothers and mother figures play in families.

Our Yiayia holds a special place in our hearts. Even having dementia she provides us with love and we cherish the memories and traditions she shared. Her storytelling, cooking and her presence contribute to our lives.

We wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day. 🌸

Did You Know? 🧐

For safe measure, we have been putting cloves in our rice as a natural way to prevent weevils and other uninvited pests (not that we invited them in the first place!). Cloves have a strong aromatic scent that is unappealing to many insects, making them an effective deterrent. It can also preserve the quality of the rice by minimizing and extending its shelf life. We love simple and natural ways.

In other storage areas of our home (e.g. under the staircase and laundry) we pop some essential oil to a cotton ball, peppermint is the favourite at the moment. Eucalyptus works well too.

Vegetables to Plant

This is the perfect season to plant broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, lettuce and peas.

💡TIP💡
When you bring meat home from the butcher, season it with The Salty Greek before freezing to save time. This becomes a good habit. We usually season, weigh, and date the freezer bag and put away.

Watch This Space: An Update on the App Saveful

There was one eggplant hanging around on the kitchen bench basket so we put the Saveful app to use. The recipe we chose was “Don’t wait for Friday not-fish”. Very easy to navigate, the instructions are simple, also very useful if you don’t have all the ingredients. I will continue to use this app in the next few weeks and then come back with my verdict, but so far, so good.
