✝️ Easter 🐣

In The Salty Greek family, Pascha (Easter, Πάσχα) is the most significant religious celebration for Greek Orthodox Christians. Involving Great Lent, Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Midnight service, all leading to Easter Sunday. As part of it, we have a ‘friendly’ competition where each person tries to crack the other’s dyed egg while saying ‘Christos Anesti’ (Christ is Risen, Χριστός ἀνέστη). The response is ‘Alithos Anesti’ (Truly He is risen, Aληθώς ανέστη!). If you are not religious, Easter can be a celebration of family and community filled with traditions and activities that bring joy without the religious context.

It’s also when we usually enjoy a lamb on the spit–we used to use Pappou’s original blend from a Greek coffee jar but we now have The Salty Greek blend in a pouch!

We are thrilled to share that our very own Chloe was nominated as a Finalist for ‘The Greek Herald’s Woman of the Year Awards 2025’, alongside 14 incredible women from all across Australia. This incredible recognition highlights her hard work, dedication and passion in celebrating her heritage through her work with The Salty Greek, her graphic design role and community volunteering. We couldn’t be prouder. 🥹

Ever heard of banana water?

Well… as you scroll down on social media you sometimes see certain things and wonder “would this work?” and guess what? It did!

I added some banana skins into a bucket of water and let it sit for a couple of days, then watered my fresh herbs–basil, parsley and mint. After about 2 weeks I started to notice pleasant growth in these plants. I’m experimenting in other areas of my garden, making sure not to over do it and over-fertilise as this can attract creepy unwanted insects. I kept the batch very very small and now I’m making a new one, even smaller with winter approaching.
